Apologies, Dr. Saunders - must learn to read more carefully! But are the medical teaching establishment in the UK going to put a stop to this? I hope so.Stephennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654455663519806899.post-83117657652917896162012-04-11T04:01:13.439-07:002012-04-11T04:01:13.439-07:00How things have changed! He used the reason that as women saw two doctors before an abortion, access to Independent Counselling was not required. Will he now eat his words and back calls for better counselling?

Mr Kevin Barron (Rother Valley) (Lab): I agree with my hon. Friend. Any evidence that we have heard has been anecdotal—we have heard of a 16-year-old’s journey and of e-mails that hon. Members have seen but that I have not. However, my hon. Friend makes a real point. The conclusion of the consultation might be that a termination takes place, but this is the only procedure in this country that requires the informed consent of two doctors. Government Members besmirch doctors by saying that such things happen daily, but that is not true. From my nine years on the General Medical Council, I recognise that we have good ethical guidelines for doctors. *Nothing is done without the informed consent of two medical practitioners.*

http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201011/cmhansrd/cm110907/debtext/110907-0002.htmAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654455663519806899.post-72283283650921076252012-04-10T14:45:08.802-07:002012-04-10T14:45:08.802-07:00There is even more worrying news. The charity, Medical Students for Choice, says UK students may be deterred from learning skills as anti-abortion campaigns are stepped up. MSFC plans to set up "externships" with BPAS for up to 15 UK and Irish students.

Its UK sister organisation, Medical Students for Abortion Care (its Director is Matteo De Martino, a fifth year medical student in Hull), has written to medical schools and students supporting this venture.

Be afraid, be very afraid.Stephennoreply@blogger.com
