Are you therefore suggesting that we should legalise euthanasia for them too or is it just elderly people that you want to remove legal protection from?Peter Saundershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17222354018504253042noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654455663519806899.post-81968514539198993822013-12-03T07:10:05.706-08:002013-12-03T07:10:05.706-08:00I understand your reservations about there not bei...I understand your reservations about there not being a count beforehand. However I still think that it is important to note that an audience of medical students, part of the medical community you yourself cited in the beginning of your speech as being opposed, voted in favour of an assisted dying law after 3 hours of debate. I think this shows "the question of who won the debate" to be remarkably straightforward.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654455663519806899.post-27457385744282965652013-12-02T15:45:25.103-08:002013-12-02T15:45:25.103-08:00The law as it stands in the UK does not work. In these circumstances votes are meaningless unless they are taken before and after to see how the debate has changed the audience's view.

There was a small majority after the debate in favour of the motion on a show of hands (no actual count was taken) which was much less than the percentage in the general population suggesting that more people changed to our side after the debate than vice versa.

But there is no way of proving any of this. It's a bit odd that you left it out. It would be helpful to know how the vote was split and what kinds of questions the speakers got from the floor.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654455663519806899.post-56102065882961598962013-11-29T00:51:13.066-08:002013-11-29T00:51:13.066-08:00My point is that the fact that the debate was lost...My point is that the fact that the debate was lost has been neglected from being mentioned.
