Well done to you, Crazy4Daizie...What a moving post. Well done to you, Crazy4Daizies! I respect and admire your decision. You will always have the memories of your son to nourish you. Those who kill their children will have nothing except a mangled corpse. I assume you are a christian, like Dr. Saunders. While I am hindu, I share your values and morals. Like you I cannot understand why people would choose not to let their children live, however briefly, so they can experience their love for even a short period. I am the mothe...~this is a very interesting topic. I am the mother of a Trisomy 13 baby. He lived 8 days, but touched my life dramatically....for the better. Like many others that have these prenatally-diagnosed pregnancies, I was urged to terminate. It was disturbing that my choice to continue my pregnancy against all odds was not widely received as virtuous, nor was there any offerings of emotionally support made available to me. I did however receive a booklet in the mail with bookmarked pages about termination, and the support available to me if I chose that route. I don't judge others for the choices that they make for themselves, and I don't believe that families like mine should be judged because we are up to task at hand should we have to care for a disabled child should they be allowed to survive. It is often said that these children are "incompatible with life", have "failure to thrive", and are "medically futile". It is a self-fulfilling prophecy to make these statements, and then justify the 'outcome' after determining that it was best to "allow nature to take its course in children like this". It's always a hot topic, but I felt the need to put in my two cents worth. It is not a fate worse than death to have your life blessed with the love of a child regardless of their mental or physical functioning. I loved my disabled son and did everything I could to advocated for his acceptance in this world---just the same as I would if one of my others sons became disabled through illness or accident. We as humans should not be deemed worthy by what we are capable of accomplishing in our lifetime. My forever 8 day old son has touched many lives thus far and I can't imagine my life without having had him in it, albeit for the brief time he was alive on this Earth. We all deserve unconditional love and pure acceptance.~Crazy 4 Daizies~https://www.blogger.com/profile/07850381715476384822noreply@blogger.com
