If you spend any time at all in really poor countries in Asia and Africa, our "crises" seem petty and greed-filled (which they are).Jamesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654455663519806899.post-56541496487492064142012-02-05T12:12:10.648-08:002012-02-05T12:12:10.648-08:00We can debate the real value of the total sums inv...We can debate the real value of the total sums involved but the immensity of the ratio between what we spend and waste and what would make an unbelievable difference to alleviating the world's suffering remains.

I used the bank bailout as an example of the extraordinary amounts of money we waste through profligate overspending and greed (the real cause of the crisis) when comparatively small sums would make a massive difference in the health of the world's poor.

I was not in this particular blog putting forth solutions - but for all of us to live more simply and give more generously is a good start.Peter Saundershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17222354018504253042noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654455663519806899.post-24668485841535247342012-02-05T10:59:14.473-08:002012-02-05T10:59:14.473-08:00A thought provoking blog, but do you really think ...A thought provoking blog, but do you really think that the Government had a choice about bailing out the Banks? Hardly, if one is to consider the unthinkable consequences of not!

I feel that your blog comment gives a false impression over the true cost of the bank bail our by treating loans and share ownership as having no future value.

But the Government does have a choice on the massive sums spent on the military, including Trident. You may want to consider both the economic and human cost of war as a real alternative to spending on tackling disease.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
