To allow someone to die deliberately of dehydration is possibly a horrendously inhumane way of death . It would certaily be illegal & possibly imprisonable thing to do to your dog so surely the same must apply to any human being .Timnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654455663519806899.post-47185534234173241602011-07-29T13:43:58.991-07:002011-07-29T13:43:58.991-07:00Judgement due on 12 SeptemberJudgement due on 12 SeptemberPeter Saundershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17222354018504253042noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654455663519806899.post-25292807985262039882011-07-29T05:18:06.433-07:002011-07-29T05:18:06.433-07:00You don't know what M is aware of and unaware ...You don't know what M is aware of and unaware of - therefore you cannot know whether she is suffering or not. You are assuming she is not suffering because she has little awareness. But you don't know that. Being in that state, and unable to communicate with anyone for the next 30 years or more, must be horrible. Unless you yourself are prepared to look after someone in such a position, how can you talk for others? Being a carer for a disabled person in such a condition is no joke. Do you expect the State to look after such people? How many people in this country look after their disabled and ill family members, leave alone someone with minimal awareness? It's an incrediby hard job, and something that should be taken into consideration don't you think? When most of us would not even be able to look after our own elderly parents at home, how are we expected to cope with this sort of caregiving?

This lady is being kept alive only by artificial nutrition. Withholding that is not euthanasia, is it? Surely we should not be keeping people alive indefinitely just because medical science allows us to? Many would argue that quality of life should also be considered.TomTnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654455663519806899.post-12510575742122704812011-07-27T02:49:36.215-07:002011-07-27T02:49:36.215-07:00Case being heard this week and last week. I don't think this case has any such ulterior motives. But I agree it is cruel to starve a person to death. When is the judgement due, does anyone know?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654455663519806899.post-20217416132763292462011-07-26T02:29:39.283-07:002011-07-26T02:29:39.283-07:00It's Terri Schiavo all over again, isn't i...It's Terri Schiavo all over again, isn't it?
The poor girl took almost 2 weeks to die, by all accounts, after her feeding tube was removed. Utterly horrible and inhumane way to kill someone. Most people wouldn't allow a cat or dog to starve to death in that way, or deprive them of water. What goes round comes round, and people would be advised to be more careful in what they advocate for others - *they* may end up getting the same treatment one day (hoist with their own petard, etc.).LRnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654455663519806899.post-27938359327398368672011-07-26T02:18:38.305-07:002011-07-26T02:18:38.305-07:00Starving someone to death is bad enough, dehaydrat...Starving someone to death is bad enough, dehaydrating them to death is even worse. I don't understand how anyone can bring themselves to do this - frankly it would be far kinder to polish off the patient with a large dose of morphine than to let them linger on and die slowly of starvation/dehydration. Not that I am advocating euthanasis, but it seems a drug-induced death might be the lesser of two evils. Horrible thing to do, allowing someone to die of dehydration/starvation.LRnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654455663519806899.post-49432094527247634102011-07-25T07:10:47.346-07:002011-07-25T07:10:47.346-07:00It would seem that the truth of the matter is that...It would seem that the truth of the matter is that the patient's family want to get rid of the strain of living with someone who does not live up to their standard of what life is all about. Here is a dangerous precendent, since other families could have more sinister motives like getting their hands on the persons money or property. While this is not the case here, in the heartless world in which we live today it could be used as an excuse.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2654455663519806899.post-86636684059283376252011-07-22T14:38:10.682-07:002011-07-22T14:38:10.682-07:00very good point about how we are not the ones to d...very good point about how we are not the ones to decide.
